What Information Can Supporters See?

Understand what personal details appear on PayPal receipts and how to protect your privacy.

What Information Can Supporters See?

A common question from creators - here's exactly what's visible to supporters when they tip you, and what you can control.

What Does SPONSA Share?

Privacy is our top priority. SPONSA only shares your SPONSA username and the goal you're funding.

Your email address, earnings, and personal details are never shared by SPONSA.

What Does PayPal Share?

Tips go directly from supporters to your PayPal account, so PayPal generates its own receipt and decides what appears on it. We can't control or change that receipt.

On a PayPal receipt, supporters see a Seller information block containing:

  • Your business name - the name on your PayPal Business account
  • Your PayPal email address
  • Your phone number, if you have one saved as a Customer Service Number

This is standard Business PayPal behaviour. It applies anywhere you connect a Business PayPal account - SPONSA, Ko-fi, Buy Me a Coffee, or your own store - and it is not something a platform can switch off.

Here is what a supporter actually sees:

A supporterโ€™s view of a completed tip. This account has no Customer Service Number saved, so no phone number appears - if yours is saved, it sits between the business name and the email address.
A supporterโ€™s view of a completed tip. This account has no Customer Service Number saved, so no phone number appears - if yours is saved, it sits between the business name and the email address.

This example has no phone number in it, because that account had its Customer Service Number removed. If yours is still saved, it appears in this block, directly under the business name.

The only part SPONSA controls is the order line - "Creator Goal on Sponsa" - which never contains your personal details.

The phone number is the one you can remove, and we would recommend doing it. Here is how.

Removing Your Phone Number from Receipts

Business PayPal asks for a phone number when you create the account, and saves it as a Customer Service Number. That's the one that appears on receipts.

  1. Log in to PayPal
  1. Go to Account settings, then Account owner information under Business profile
  1. Find the Phone row and click Update

  1. You will likely see the same number listed more than once, under labels like Mobile, Customer Service and Home. You only need to remove the one labelled Customer Service - the others are not shown to supporters
  1. Click the โ‹ฎ menu on the Customer Service card and choose Delete
The same number often appears more than once. Only the entry tagged Customer Service is shown to supporters - open the โ‹ฎ menu on that card and choose Delete.

Once removed, your phone number stops appearing on receipts - including receipts your supporters have already received. PayPal builds the receipt view from your current account details rather than a snapshot taken at the time, so past transactions update too.

Removing this doesn't affect your payouts or your account. The Customer Service Number is only used for display on receipts. Your other saved numbers, including the one used for account security, are untouched.

Your PayPal Email

Unlike the phone number, the email address on your PayPal Business account can't be hidden from receipts - PayPal uses it as the seller's contact email address.

What you can do is choose which email that is. If you'd rather supporters didn't see a personal email address, set up your PayPal Business account with a dedicated business or creator email rather than your everyday one.

You can change the email on your PayPal account under Settings โ†’ Account โ†’ Email.

Choosing Your Business Name

When setting up your PayPal Business account, choose a business name you're comfortable with supporters seeing. Most creators use their channel name or creator brand.

You can update your business name in PayPal under Account Settings โ†’ Business Information if needed.
